Research Into The Music Industry

The purpose of music video are simple as they use them to generate a name for an artist or band. An example of this is Michael Jackson and his music video “Thriller” even though Michael Jackson was a worldwide superstar this video somehow gave the extra boost in his carer by producing a video that people wanted to see over and over again. This lead to people using the water cooler effect and gaining a wider audience which then earns them more money. After view the first video the audience would want to see his next music video because how good the previous music video was.Another reason they have created so that the audience can relate to the video and use a sense of escapism for the length of the music video. Could also be incentive to buy the CD/Album.

Music videos are media with a link by directors the band and a general creative team. They will listen to the song and create a range of storyboards to see what the band think suit them best. The filming of the music video will normally take about 1day to film. But the editing will take between 4-6 weeks. After the editing the recorded label will distribute to music channels, and upload to websites like youtube.

Music television: MTV was launched in summer 1981 with a purpose of to play music videos. In 1986 they introduced a show dedicated to alternative rock bands. This is a genre that our song/band fits in with. In 1991 this is when this genre became more mainstream and had been given a longer slot on the channel. Now in Morden date MTV has moved from just showing music videos to show about artist/band. MTV documented a trip by punk band Sum 41 to a democratic republic of Congo. This was showing the conflict in the country. So MTV changed from a channel airing music videos to a show documenting conflict abroad. And recently been producing film such as jackass.

Now websites such as “Youtube” is a place where all forms of artist will upload there music video because it is one of the most visited site on the web. They might even get sponsored by companies like “Buzznet” creating a channel with a regular viewers.
