The use of the confession box (that we constructed) is a signifier for showing the religious aspects of the video, to go with the religious theme that the audience see in the first scene of shots. This is to show the audience what our music video is based and one of the themes.
Throughout the video we see that the main character shots in black and white this is to show the dark side of his life, were as we have the shots of his girlfriend in normal colour. We have her in norm
al colour to emphasise that she is a good part of his life and that she is always there to help him. We also got the main actor in actor in dark coloured clothing to signify he is a dark man as the dark colour signify negativity.
The scenes with the AA meeting in our media production show a change from the main characters life, we use the changing of colour to emphasize that it’s a point where he changes his live around.
The props such as the alcohol indicate to audience that the main actor is an alcoholic. Having the main actor as an alcoholic showing to the audience that he has a reason for making a confession.
The clothing in our video reflects on the characters lifestyle choice. We always see him in casual clothing, nothing serious this could signify that he doesn’t have a job.
In the making of the video as a group we had to construct the confessions box, we were able to do this as we had the facilities to do so, during the making of the confessions box we had to spend a bit of money on the materials of making the box but after that we had everything really simple.
In this shot you can see a little bit of the confessions box. In the confessions box we had to paint it black to give it the effect that it was a confessions box, to give the idea that it is a confessions box we have used metal mesh this has been added so that it looks like the part where you are able to speak to the priest. This signifies to the audience that the lead singer/ main character has got a troubled life and is trying to find an answer to his problems. Some of the audience might be able to identify with his situation or they might feel sympathy for him. Either way we have tried to engage the audience through the setting in this scene.
In this picture we can see that the main character is isolated and that he doesn't know which way to turn. It informs the audience that he doesn't really want to be there, he is doing it to save his own life. looking at this picture it signifies to me that he is trying to get help, reasons for this is that he is sitting in a circle of chairs and posters all over the board.
Going on with the confessions box. The very first shot of the video is of a Church, we have done this shot so that the audience can understand the main theme of the video, having a church at the start immediately signifies that the video is about religion. I can see our target audience seeing this aswell as our target audience is aged around 16 to mid 30's. The church communicates with the audience that it is going to be centering around binary oppositions like good and evil, heaven and hell and suggest the main character may have some sort of moral dilemma.
In this picture we can see that he does have something good in his life, his girlfriend. this shows to us that he does have good parts to his life and that he has got something to cherish, he owns a house with his girlfriend and that he does not want to loose his girlfriend. This image is a domestic shot so this signifies within the video that they are together and it clears it up forthe people who were unclear on whether they were together or not.
This image signifies that the picture is current time and that also she has some hope that the main character will be fine, we have used natural light for the shots with the girlfriend in as this shows that she is innocent and that she is also hopeful that the main character will be okay.
